Basic cycle know-how can make a big difference in a self-support race. It can mean the difference between a DNF and completing, or even between completing and winning.
Athletic Initiatives knows what you are up against when you prep for race day. We have just the workshop to tide you over those cycle malfunctions.
Who will conduct it: Ashok Captain, fondly called Cap! runs marathons and loves tinkering with bicycles. With 11 years of bicycle racing behind him there is nothing he does not know about bicycles. He is one of the most respected cyclists in the country having been a pro cyclist for india for numerous years. He’s won the ‘ghatacha raja’ ( the famed Mumbai Pune cycle race) on numerous occasions. With his technical know how of cycles he can make any cycle sing!
Who should come: Cyclists who have a basic understanding of their cycle, and its parts. They need to be able to get their hands dirty and willing to learn quick fixes that can come handy during a cycling event, a duathlon or a triathlon.
What does it include:
Racing in a ‘Self-supported’ event, where participants will learn how to deal with various mechanical glitches during a race:
a) Fixing a puncture
b) Adjusting brakes
c) Mechanical issues that may arise in the bikes transportation to the venue
d) What spares/ tools are required to carry along on a self-supported race
Note: This workshop is specifically designed for self-supported racing and thus will not cover general bike maintenance pointers.
What the participants need to carry:
a) Participants must get the bikes they are going to race on
b) If the bike does not have an attached stand, participants are encouraged to bring along a detachable stand.
c) Participants to carry their own bikes tools/ spare tubes/ pumps/ compressed air canisters, so that they can learn and practice working with this. In the event that the participant does not have these already, they can purchase these at the workshop venue. However, it’s best you carry the tubes that fit your bike specifications, since we do not guarantee spares for all models and makes.
Thank you dear athletes for the fabulous response and a big thanks to Marin Cycles and Cykler for their support.
